Uganda international goalkeeper Vanessa Karungi has made history by becoming the first and only Ugandan player to feature in the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup, representing Danish side Brøndby IF on the European stage.
Karungi, who is also part of the Crested Cranes setup, continues to break new ground in her career after playing a key role for Brøndby during their European campaign.
Brøndby IF successfully eliminated Slovakian side Spartak Subotica, securing their place in the next round of the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup. The Danish outfit’s progression keeps Karungi and her teammates in contention for further European football.
Following their success against Spartak Subotica, Brøndby IF are now set for another demanding European assignment against Sporting CP.
The next-round encounter is scheduled for next Wednesday, with Karungi expected to remain part of Brøndby’s squad as they continue their continental journey.
For Ugandan football, Karungi’s involvement represents another significant milestone. Her participation in UEFA competition provides visibility for Ugandan women's football and adds to the growing list of achievements by Ugandan players competing abroad.
Having already established herself between the posts for Brøndby IF, Karungi will now look to help the Danish side negotiate another challenging tie against Sporting CP.
