PLOVDIV, BULGARIA — In a major career move, Uganda Cranes central defender Timothy Awany has officially signed with Bulgarian topflight side Botev Plovdiv.
Awany joins Bulgaria's oldest active football club as a free agent, embarking on a fresh European chapter following the expiration of his contract.

Awany’s move to Botev Plovdiv marks a significant step forward for the 29-year-old powerhouse. The Bulgarian First League club, widely respected for its rich history and passionate fanbase, secures a seasoned international known for his aerial dominance, physical presence, and tactical discipline.
The move comes shortly after Awany announced his emotional departure from Israeli Premier League side FC Ashdod, where he spent an impressive seven years.
End of an Era at FC Ashdod
Awany originally moved to Israel in July 2019 from Ugandan giants KCCA FC.
